 SMRT Citibank card-Review 1:
This card can be used like an ez-link card which we use for public transport. It gives you 2% rebate on each ez-link topup which is the same as shaving 2% off your public transport expense.

Please take note that you are charged
SGD0.25 for every topup. Therefore, it makes sense to maximize the top-up amount (SGD50) to reduce the frequency of top-ups to save money.

Because of my thrifty lifestyle, I prefer cards that offer high rebates on basic unavoidable expenses to cards that focus on luxury spending. One helps us to save money, the other tempts us to spend money. It is a matter of lifestyle choice. Just spend if it makes you happy.

The SMRT card offers
high rebates on grocery shopping which are necessary household spending. You can get good discounts from the major supermarkets in Singapore like Giant, Carrefour, selected NTUC outlets etc

So far, I cannot find another card with rebates that covers so many supermarkets.

Review 2:

Currently, the most frequently used credit card of mine is the Citibank SMRT Platinum. The main reason for that is the 5% rebate on groceries. As I usually buy groceries from the Giant, it earns some amount of rebate every month. Besides the Giant, it also has 5% rebate at Cold Storage, Carrefour. Besides groceries, that card is also with the Ez-link function and can do auto top-up with credit. Every auto top-up costs 25cents, but you can earn 2% rebate at the mean time. That card also has rebate in some Coffees and restaurants. If you are considering credit cards from Citibank, that one may be a good choice. The rebate for the SMRT card can be collected by calling the Citi hotline and select the types of vouchers. The vouchers are $10 each and you may not be able to redeem the rebate if the value is below $10. I usually redeem the SMRT voucher to top-up the Ez-link and there are some other vouchers available as well. The rebate earned from the SMRT card is about $100 per year based on normal consumption. I have applied other two cards such as Citi Clear and Citibank Platinum before, but I have cancelled those two cards eventually as I seldom use them.

Review 3:
SMRT credit card huh? Looks like transport costs must really be through the roof. I’ll tell you one thing: I hope this card works in cabs. Get it? Because that’s what you’ll be using if you try the train!
This card is designed for people who love public transport (so go apply for it, all two of you). It doubles as an EZ-Link card, so anyone stealing it can flee more easily. The card also offers a range of interesting benefits:
  • Get SMRT rebates and free rides
  • Cash rebate for shopping
  • Wide range of dining discounts
  • Great for groceries
  • Petrol discount, because logic sucks

As you spend money, you’ll accumulate SMRT dollars. Every $10 SMRT dollars can be traded for a $10 voucher, valid at participating outlets such as Giant, Cold Storage, or Carrefour. Because so many of the rewards are redeemable at supermarkets, this is a great card for grocery shopping. You can also use SMRT dollars to top up your EZ Link card.
This card also has an impressive 6% cash rebate, but only for shopping at Tangs. Dining discounts have a good range, applicable at restaurants from Sakae Sushi to Boon Tong Kee.
Oh, and there’s a 5% discount at Esso. This makes sense.
